Baseball Game Preview: J.R. Tucker Tigers vs. Deep Run Wildcats

The J.R. Tucker Tigers will head out on the road to face off against the Deep Run Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.

The home team had won the previous three meetings between J.R. Tucker and Freeman, and Freeman kept the tradition alive. The Tigers took a 6-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Mavericks on Friday.

Caleb Wood was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Wood was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple and one stolen base. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.

In other batting news, Joey Noel made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with two runs and one double. Christian Barrett was another key player, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two RBI.

Meanwhile, Deep Run suffered their biggest defeat since April 12, 2024 on Monday. They came up short against Cosby, falling 9-1. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the Wildcats' biggest loss of the season was also their lowest-scoring.

Deep Run saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jacob Saunders, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI. That double was Saunders' first of the season.

This is the second loss in a row for Deep Run and nudges their season record down to 9-4. As for J.R. Tucker, their loss dropped their record down to 1-8.

J.R. Tucker suffered a grim 14-0 defeat to Deep Run in their previous matchup back in March. Can the Tigers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
