Softball Recap: New Brunswick Takes a Loss

Somerset Tech hit New Brunswick with a five-run first inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Zebra fell just short of the Jaguars by a score of 10-9. The Zebra were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Jaguars apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Ashley Garcia was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. That triple was her first of the season. Libni Ester Gijon was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

New Brunswick has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Somerset Tech, the win snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 4-6 record.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. New Brunswick will face off against North Plainfield at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Somerset Tech, they will challenge Piscataway Vo-Tech at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
