Basketball Game Preview: Lakeland Cavaliers vs. Deep Creek Hornets

The Lakeland Cavaliers are taking a road trip to take on the Deep Creek Hornets at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Lakeland has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the matchup with six straight defeats, while Deep Creek will come in with seven straight victories.

On Friday, Lakeland came up short against Indian River and fell 53-43. While losing is never fun, the Cavaliers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 202nd, while the Braves are ranked 93rd).

Meanwhile, Deep Creek humbled Oscar Smith with a 62-18 victory. The Hornets have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 14 games by 25 points or more this season.

Deep Creek pushed their record up to 16-5 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 50.8 points. As for Lakeland, their loss dropped their record down to 6-16.

Lakeland was taken down by Deep Creek 75-10 when the teams last played back in January. Can Lakeland avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
