Softball Game Preview: Hammond Skyhawks vs. Heathwood Hall Episcopal Highlanders

For the second straight game, Hammond will face off against Heathwood Hall Episcopal. The Skyhawks will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against the Highlanders at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Hammond has four straight wins, Heathwood Hall Episcopal has nine straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

On Tuesday, Hammond earned a 7-4 victory over Heathwood Hall Episcopal.

Ava Sapp spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on five hits and racked up eight Ks. Those eight strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Ali Dorrington, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Ava Miller, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Hammond's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 4-2. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Heathwood Hall Episcopal, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.
