While Mary Persons didn't have the best season last year (they finished 16-20), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Academy for Classical Education Gryphons 3-2. This was payback for the Bulldogs, who suffered a 2-1 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Mary Persons had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first two sets, they turned around to win the next three. The match finished with set scores of 20-25, 20-25, 25-17, 25-18, 15-9.

Kasyn Vannier paced Mary Persons' offense, picking up 11 kills. Vannier got some help from Kamryn Vannier and her 21 assists. Kasyn and Kamryn didn't slow down when it came to serving: they led the team with five apiece.

Mary Persons' victory bumped their record up to 9-4. As for Academy for Classical Education, their loss dropped their record down to 11-6.

Coming up, Mary Persons will square off against Lake Oconee Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Academy for Classical Education, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Perry at 5:00 p.m.
