Basketball Recap: Winston County Extends Winning Streak to Six

Winston County came tearing into Thursday's contest with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.4 points) and they left with even more momentum. They strolled past the Tharptown Wildcats with points to spare, taking the game 51-35. Given the Yellowjackets' advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 175th, while the Wildcats are ranked 419th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Winston County to victory, but perhaps none more so than Lynleigh Cobb, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 15 boards. Cobb is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Jaylee Calloway, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 12 boards.

Winston County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 26 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in eight consecutive matches.

Winston County has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 23-4 record this season. As for Tharptown, they dropped their record down to 2-17 with the defeat, which was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season.
