Basketball Recap: Covenant Life Falls Short Against Ranked Mount Airy Christian Academy

On Thursday, Covenant Life faced Mount Airy Christian Academy in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Covenant Life Cougars fell just short of Mount Airy Christian Academy by a score of 31-28. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cougars this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 37-20 last Friday.

Leading Mount Airy Christian Academy to victory were Avery Witter and Ava McGlaughlin. Witter dropped a double-double on 14 points and 12 boards, while McGlaughlin posted 11 points and eight boards. Those 12 rebounds gave Witter a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Madison Apolenis, who had two points.

Covenant Life's defeat dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Mount Airy Christian Academy, the victory got them back to even at 3-3.

Covenant Life will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Greater Grace Christian Academy at 5:00 p.m. on January 21, 2025. As for Mount Airy Christian Academy, they will head out on the road to face off against Carroll Christian at 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
