Basketball Recap: Kitz Petrovski's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Battle Mountain over Lake County

Battle Mountain was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 11th straight loss dating back to last season. They were three points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 64-61 heartbreaker at the hands of the Lake County Panthers. The Huskies were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Panthers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2022.

Battle Mountain's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kitz Petrovski, who went 6 of 15 en route to 15 points. Another player making a difference was Jakob Methvin, who posted 13 points.

Leading Lake County to victory were Isaiah Martinez and Jaren Peters. Martinez went 9 of 18 on his way to 27 points along with seven boards and three blocks, while Peters almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Peters a new career-high in assists (six). Jason Ayers was another key player, putting up six points and seven steals.

Battle Mountain's defeat dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Lake County, they moved to 2-4 with that victory, which also ended their four-game losing streak.

Battle Mountain won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Meeker at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Lake County, they and DSST: Cedar will face off at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday without much rest having both just played.
