Softball Recap: Gray's Creek Comes Up Short

Gray's Creek dropped down to 5-4 on Friday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They came up short against the Purnell Swett Rams, falling 13-6. The Bears were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Rams apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2025.

Amber Miller made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. Skylar Belote was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.

As for Purnell Swett, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season. The result was nothing new for Purnell Swett, who have now won four matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

On Purnell Swett's side, Angel Chavis was a standout: she went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and two doubles. That home run marked the first that Chavis has launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Lanna Haggans, who went 3-for-5 with three runs, two doubles, and one RBI.

Gray's Creek wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, an 18-0 victory against Terry Sanford on the 24th. As for Purnell Swett, they have also already played their next game, a 9-8 loss against Lumberton on the 24th.
