Softball Recap: Steilacoom Takes a Loss

Steilacoom had lost five straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 2-11 to make it six. They came up short against the Orting Cardinals, falling 24-14. If the Sentinels were looking for revenge after losing 29-17 to the Cardinals when the teams met back in May of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Abigail Butterfield made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with three runs and three RBI. Izzy Cortez was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.

As for Orting, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.8 runs over those games.

On Orting's side, the team relied heavily on Norah Fenton, who went 4-for-5 with one home run, 11 RBI, and four runs. Those four runs gave Fenton a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Claire Carlson, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs, four RBI, and one triple.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Steilacoom will challenge Franklin Pierce at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Orting, they will face off against Kingston at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
