Volleyball Recap: Monroe Area Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Monroe Area, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They skirted past the Berkmar Patriots 2-1. The victory continues a trend for the Purple Hurricanes in their matchups with the Patriots: they've now won three in a row.

Monroe Area had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next two. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 24-26, 25-23, 15-7.

Ashley Phiel paced Monroe Area's offense, picking up nine kills. Phiel got some help from Alyssa Brown and her 23 assists. Phiel also made an impact serving: she shared the team lead in aces with Chloe Brown, racking up two apiece.

Monroe Area's win bumped their record up to 5-10. As for Berkmar, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-4.

Monroe Area has already played their next game, a 2-0 loss against Apalachee on the 21st. As for Berkmar, they will take on Cedar Grove at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
