Softball Recap: Smithsburg Comes Up Short

Smithsburg extended their losing streak to three on Saturday, dropping them down to 3-4. They came up short against the Spring Mills Cardinals, falling 17-1. The Leopards were not able to make up for their loss to the Cardinals from their previous meeting back in April of 2025.

As for Spring Mills, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-2. That looming 17-1 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for them yet this season.

For Spring Mills' part, Chloe Munson tossed a big game, striking out ten batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts Munson has posted since back in April of 2025.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jocilyn Graham, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Serena Jianeeny, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs and one RBI.

Smithsburg will be staying on the road on Saturday to face off against Southern Fulton at 11:00 a.m. The Indians have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.17 runs per game on average), something the Leopards will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Spring Mills, they will take on Saint James at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
