Vela came tearing into Thursday's match with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against the Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Southwest Javelinas by a score of 8-5. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 19-0 back in March.

Sara Mendoza made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off eight hits. What's more, she posted five strikeouts, the most she's had since back in March of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Emma De La Cruz was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Eileen Reyna was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

Vela hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in five consecutive contests.

Vela pushed their record up to 12-8 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Southwest, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-11.

Vela has already played their next game, an 11-0 loss against Harlingen South on the 24th. Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Southwest does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
