Flag Football Game Preview: Mission Viejo Diablos vs. El Modena Vanguards

The Mission Viejo Diablos will take on the El Modena Vanguards at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few points on average (Mission Viejo 12.5, El Modena 11.5) so any points scored will be well earned.

Mission Viejo is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. They took down Santiago 20-6. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Diablos.

A big part of Mission Viejo's victory came down to the chemistry between Bailey McNeal and her top target Leah Vanderveen. McNeal threw for 265 yards and two TDs while Vanderveen picked up 112 receiving yards and one touchdown. That's the most receiving yards Vanderveen has posted since back in September.

Mission Viejo didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Brooklyn Koedel. She has been hot recently, having also posted at least one defended passe the last four times she's played.

Meanwhile, El Modena didn't have too much trouble with Rancho Cucamonga on Saturday as they won 25-6.

El Modena now has a winning record of 11-10-1. As for Mission Viejo, their win bumped their record up to 16-14.

Things could have been worse for Mission Viejo, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 14-0 loss to El Modena when the teams last played back in August. Can the Diablos avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
