If Pagosa Springs wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Montezuma-Cortez, they should've done a better job of containing Caidin Leonard. Everything went the Montezuma-Cortez Panthers' way against the Pagosa Springs Pirates on Saturday as the Montezuma-Cortez Panthers made off with a 62-36 win for which the team can thank Leonard, who went 9-for-16 from beyond the arc to rack up 33 points and five steals. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in points.

The team also got some help courtesy of Tay Wheat, who went 6-for-9 en route to 15 points and five assists. He has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last seven times he's played.

Pagosa Springs' loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Creede Dozier, who posted 12 points. Another player making a difference was Seth Zeigler, who earned six points and five rebounds.

The victory made it two in a row for Montezuma-Cortez and bumps their season record up to 15-5. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 23.5 points. As for Pagosa Springs, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-13.

Montezuma-Cortez has already played their next contest, a 64-50 win against Ignacio on the 18th. As for Pagosa Springs, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 51-48 victory against Sanford on the 21st.
