Baseball Game Preview: Great Bridge Wildcats vs. Cox Falcons

The Great Bridge Wildcats will face off against the Cox Falcons at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Great Bridge comes in on five and Cox on three.

Great Bridge is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Their pitcher stepped up to hand King's Fork a 24-0 shutout last Thursday. Considering the Wildcats have won eight contests by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Jason Miller looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and not a single walk). He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Ryder Harrell was a standout: he went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and five RBI. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Casey Cuddyer, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

Great Bridge always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .696. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Cox earned a 5-2 win over Kellam on Friday.

Great Bridge's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-5. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Cox, their victory bumped their record up to 16-2.

Great Bridge couldn't quite get it done against Cox in their previous matchup back in April of 2018 as they fell 5-2. Can the Wildcats avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
