The York Institute Dragons are taking a road trip to face off against the Monterey Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Monterey will challenge a team with plenty of momentum: York Institute extended their winning streak to five on Friday. The Dragons put the hurt on Scott with a sharp 11-1 win. 11 seems to be a good number for the Dragons as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.
Garrison Garrett was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. Those 11 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, Landon Shoemake and Kaden Sutton did most of the damage at the plate: Shoemake scored a run while going 3-for-4, while Sutton scored four runs while going 2-for-2. What's more, Shoemake posted three RBI, the most he's had since back in March. Brody Choate was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
York Institute always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .633. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Monterey got the win against Harriman on Saturday by a conclusive 10-2. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Wildcats.
York Institute pushed their record up to 11-7 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Monterey, their record now sits at 8-9.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. York Institute has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Monterey struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
York Institute skirted past Monterey 6-4 in their previous matchup back in March. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Dragons since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
