Basketball Recap: Liberty's Luck Changes for the Better on Saturday

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Rancho Verde, Liberty was happy to have turned things around on Saturday. They walked away with a 34-27 win over the Orange Vista Coyotes. The victory was some much needed relief for the Bison as it spelled an end to their seven-game losing streak.

Liberty was led to victory by Kahili Paulino and Kelli Harris-Wellman. Paulino posted 13 points and five steals, while Harris-Wellman had 11 points and eight boards. The dominant performance gave Paulino a new career-high in points.

Despite the loss, Orange Vista still got an impressive performance from Taniyah Hutcherson, who scored 21 points. That was a full 77.8% of Orange Vista's points, marking the 16th time in a row she's put up more than a third of the team's points.

Liberty's win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-5 and their overall record up to 5-13. As for Orange Vista, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last nine contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-12 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Liberty will square off against Canyon Springs at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Orange Vista, they and JW North will meet in a dog eat dog contest at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Orange Vista is facing JW North at the right time seeing as JW North is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
