Waldron takes loss despite strong efforts from Alyssa Benson and Grace Fischer

Recap: Waldron Mohawks vs. South Decatur Cougars

The Waldron Mohawks's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their fourth straight loss. They took a hard 55-37 fall against South Decatur. Waldron found out winning isn't easy when you don't work as a unit and rack up seven fewer assists than your opponent.

Waldron's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Grace Fischer, who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds and two steals, and Alyssa Benson who scored 18 points. Fischer has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last four times she's played.

Makalya Somers continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for South Decatur, dropping a double-double on 21 points and 17 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Somers has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Taylor Somers, who scored 12 points.

Waldron has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-11 record this season. As for South Decatur, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 11-9.

Waldron on the road again on Saturday and play against Eastern Hancock at 12:30 p.m. on January 13th. The timing is sure in Eastern Hancock's favor as the team sits on nine straight wins at home while Waldron has been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road. South Decatur will take on Edinburgh at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Edinburgh is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.
