Soccer Game Preview: South Gwinnett vs. Grovetown

The South Gwinnett Comets are taking a road trip to face off against the Grovetown Warriors at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as South Gwinnett comes in on nine and Grovetown on five.

South Gwinnett's defense heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 7-0 margin over Newton. Give South Gwinnett's defense some credit: that's the team's fourth straight shutout.

They hit Newton with a three-pronged attack, as the team got scores from Eylin Orellana Gonzalez (4), Lauren Ward (2), and Emily Sanchez-Rodriguez.

Meanwhile, after failing to score in their last matchup, Grovetown made sure to put some goals up on the board against Rockdale County on Friday. They put the hurt on the Bulldogs with a sharp 10-0 victory. Given Grovetown's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia soccer rankings (they are ranked 132nd, while Rockdale County are ranked 338th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

South Gwinnett pushed their record up to 10-3 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. The victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 22 goals over those four games. As for Grovetown, their win bumped their record up to 8-3.

South Gwinnett took their victory against Grovetown in their previous matchup back in February by a conclusive 3-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for South Gwinnett since the team won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
