Softball Recap: Menomonee Falls Comes Up Short

Menomonee Falls dropped their record down to 9-14 on Thursday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They came up short against the Brookfield East Spartans, falling 9-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Spartans this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 2-1 back in April.

As for Brookfield East, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-9. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games.

For Brookfield East's part, Layla Diehl made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over seven innings pitched. Diehl has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two RBI and one double. Those four hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Paeton Ulrich was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and one double. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Anna Bracke, who went 3-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.

Coming up, Menomonee Falls will face off against Brookfield Central at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Brookfield East does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
