Softball Recap: Italy Snaps Five-Game Streak of Wins on the Road

Italy dropped their record down to 14-7 on Thursday, which also ended the team's five-game streak of wins on the road. They took a 10-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Rio Vista Eagles. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 14-5 last Friday.

Addy Slovak made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with five stolen bases, two runs, and one double. She has been hot for a while, having posted at least one stolen base the last 13 times she's played.

As for Rio Vista, the win was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 15-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.9 runs on average over those games.

On Rio Vista's side, Kailee Dyer spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six runs (all of which were unearned) on two hits and racked up 11 Ks.

At the plate, Ayden Greenslade was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Alyssa Swindle was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three RBI.

Italy wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 21-13 loss against Dawson on the 24th. As for Rio Vista, they have also already played their next contest, a 5-4 win against Axtell on the 24th.
