Softball Recap: Santa Paula Has No Trouble Against Channel Islands

Santa Paula got themselves on the board against Channel Islands on Tuesday, but Channel Islands never followed suit. They blew past the Raiders 19-0. Considering the Cardinals have won five matches by more than nine runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Ayla Rodriguez tossed a big game, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. Those 11 strikeouts gave her a new career-high.

On the hitting side, Abby Ibarra was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing five bases while going 3-for-4. Those five stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Mia Cardenas, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4.

Santa Paula was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .424. They are 4-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Santa Paula's victory bumped their record up to 5-8. As for Channel Islands, their defeat was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-6.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Santa Paula will head out to face off against Hueneme at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Cardinals' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Vikings have averaged an impressive 6.2 runs per game this season. As for Channel Islands, they will venture away from home to square off against Carpinteria at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
