Basketball Recap: Eric Avila's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Baldwin Park over Azusa

Baldwin Park was the 46-43 winner over Azusa when they last played one another two weeks ago, but their luck changed this time around. The Baldwin Park Braves fell to the Azusa Aztecs 39-35.

Baldwin Park's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Eric Avila, who posted 20 points. Another player making a difference was Rafael Godinez, who put up five points in addition to eight steals and seven boards.

Azusa's win on Thursday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Adam Sanchez, who almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Sanchez a new career-high in blocks (seven). Kevin Mijares was another key player, going 6 for 7 on his way to 12 points and five boards.

Baldwin Park has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-11 record this season. As for Azusa, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 10-6.

Baldwin Park will venture away from home to face off against Garey at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Baldwin Park is facing Garey at the right time seeing as Garey is stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Azusa, they will be playing at home against Sierra Vista at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Sierra Vista will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something Azusa surely won't give up without a fight.
