Baseball Preview: Herriman Mustangs vs. Layton Lancers
The Herriman Mustangs will head out on the road to face off against the Layton Lancers at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Herriman is no doubt hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
On Wednesday, Herriman came up short against Orem and fell 8-4.
Herriman saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kayson Thomas, who went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Cache Carter was another key contributor, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Layton waltzed into their contest on Wednesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Falcons and snuck past 7-6.
Eli Anderson and Fish Manning made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Anderson tossed 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit (he also only allowed one walk). Meanwhile, Manning pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (he also didn't allow any walks). At bat, Anderson scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances, while Manning scored a run while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.
In other pitching news, Andres Cedeno looked comfortable as he tossed four innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits.
Back at the plate, Tanner Neil was excellent, scoring three runs while going 1-for-4.
Herriman's defeat dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Layton, their victory bumped their record up to 6-1.
Herriman beat Layton 9-4 when the teams last played back in May of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for Herriman since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
