Softball Recap: Covington Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

It may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Covington ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Seeger Patriots, sneaking past 10-8. The victory was some much needed relief for the Trojans as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.

Alexus Peaslee spent all nine innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and four unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up ten Ks.

On the hitting side, Lauren Hardy was excellent, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with one triple, one run, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Stein, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Covington's win bumped their record up to 13-9. As for Seeger, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 12-10 record this season.

Covington will challenge South Vermillion at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Wildcats have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.94 runs per game on average), something the Trojans will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Seeger, they will face off against Crawfordsville at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The Athenians have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13.76 runs per game on average), something the Patriots will no doubt try to take advantage of.
