Basketball Game Preview: Hough Huskies vs. North Mecklenburg Vikings

Hough hasn't had much luck against North Mecklenburg recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Hough Huskies will square off against the North Mecklenburg Vikings at 7:30 p.m. Hough is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.1 points per game this season.

Last Friday, Hough came up short against Hopewell and fell 53-40. The matchup marked the Huskies' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

The losing side was boosted by Evan Otto, who posted 12 points and five boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Tre Ratliff, who had seven points.

Meanwhile, North Mecklenburg waltzed into their game on Friday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They claimed a resounding 83-40 victory over the Lions. Given the Vikings' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked tenth, while the Lions are ranked 173rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

North Mecklenburg pushed their record up to 14-2 with the win, which was their 22nd straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 88.1 points per game. As for Hough, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-8.

Hough came up short against North Mecklenburg in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, falling 57-44. Can Hough avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
