Preview: Arvada West Wildcats vs. Skyview Wolverines

Two dominant in Saylor Swanson and Nevaeh Lucero are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Arvada West Wildcats's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Skyview Wolverines at 7:00 p.m. on December 12th. Hopefully Arvada West focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up eight on Saturday.

Winning is just a little bit easier when you work as a team to rack up 13 more assists than your opponent, a fact Arvada West proved. They blew past Littleton 67-45. Given Arvada West's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 35th, while Littleton is ranked 133rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Arvada West's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sara Walker, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 10 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Swanson, who scored 14 points along with 6 assists and 5 rebounds.

Meanwhile, Skyview put another one in the bag on Saturday to keep their perfect season alive. They enjoyed a cozy 48-29 victory over St. Mary's Academy.

Skyview can attribute much of their success to Leila Estrada, who scored 16 points along with 6 assists and 3 steals, and Yzabella Tafoya, who scored 14 points along with 7 rebounds. The matchup was Estrada's seventh in a row with at least ten points. Lucero was another key contributor, scoring 6 points along with 6 rebounds and 3 steals.

The losses dropped Arvada West to 4-1 and Littleton to 1-5.

Tuesday's contest is shaping up to be a blowout: Arvada West hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 53.4 points per game. It's a different story for Skyview, though, as they've been averaging only 59.9 per game. The only thing between Arvada West and another offensive beatdown is Skyview. Will they be able to keep them contained? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more basketball content.

Arvada West took their win against Skyview in their previous matchup back in December of 2022 by a conclusive 59-33. The rematch might be a little tougher for Arvada West since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
