Football Game Preview: Natchitoches Central Chiefs vs. Opelousas Tigers

Natchitoches Central is 0-3 against Opelousas since September of 2022 but things could change on Friday. The Chiefs will head out to take on the Tigers at 7:00 p.m. One thing working in Natchitoches Central's favor is that they have posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season.

Natchitoches Central took a loss when they played away from home last Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They came out on top against Haughton by a score of 42-32. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Chiefs as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

One reason for the win was Natchitoches Central's imposing defensive line, which managed to get into the backfield for five sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Aaron Cassey and Austin Sewell, who racked up four sacks between them. Cassey is also crushing it when it comes to total tackles: he's made at least seven every time he's taken the field this season. Imari Speed got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Meanwhile, Opelousas played a tough contest on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They took a blow against Zachary, falling 51-6. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana football rankings (they are ranked 53rd, while the Broncos are ranked eighth).

Opelousas' loss dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Natchitoches Central, their victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 2-3.

Natchitoches Central came up short against Opelousas when the teams last played back in October of 2024, falling 26-18. Can the Chiefs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
