Basketball Recap: Elkhorn Comes Up Short

Elkhorn was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They were beaten by the Union Grove Broncos 75-41. While losing is never fun, the Elks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Wisconsin basketball rankings (they are ranked 210th, while the Broncos are ranked 18th).

It was another big night for Camryn Smith, who went 6 of 9 on her way to 17 points and six steals for Union Grove. Smith is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Samantha Hafferkamp, who posted 12 points and six assists.

Elkhorn's loss dropped their record down to 5-14. As for Union Grove, their victory was their 15th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 19-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Elkhorn will venture away from home to challenge Wilmot at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Union Grove, they will head out on the road to face off against Badger at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
