Baseball Game Preview: Esparto Spartans vs. Sacramento Dragons

The Esparto Spartans will venture away from home to challenge the Sacramento Dragons at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

Tuesday just wasn't the day for Esparto's offense. They lost 9-0 to Buckingham Charter on Tuesday. The Spartans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Sacramento). They blew past San Juan 28-9 on Monday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.

Tyrone Archie was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Archie was also solid in the batter's box, scoring three runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Those three runs gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Jaylen Crump was a standout: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, five RBI, and one stolen base. He has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Zion Jamison, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with five RBI, three runs, and one triple.

Sacramento was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .606. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Sacramento's victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-4. As for Esparto, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.
