Preview: Tampa Bay Tech Titans vs. Armwood Hawks
Tampa Bay Tech has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Armwood Hawks at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Tampa Bay Tech will be hoping to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each match than the last.
Tampa Bay Tech had already proven themselves in the regular season, and didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They came out on top against Fletcher on Friday by a score of 51-34 (the very same score they lost by the week prior). This was one game where the offenses had no trouble playing at a high level.
It was another big night for Rod Gainey jr, who rushed for 155 yards and a touchdown on only eight carries. Gainey jr was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 50 yards. Tampa Bay Tech also got help from Dallas Wilson who showed off his sure hands for 83 receiving yards.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Tampa Bay Tech's defensive line and their seven sacks. In that department, Tre?variez Jacobs was the leader with five sacks.
Meanwhile, Armwood had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 33.2 points), and they went ahead and made it seven on Friday. They secured a 20-14 W over Wharton. Given Armwood's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida football rankings (they are ranked 23rd, while Wharton is ranked 88th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Armwood's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Olontae Dean, who gained 102 total yards and a touchdown. Rhys Brush was another key contributor, throwing for 156 yards and three touchdowns.
Tampa Bay Tech's win bumped their record up to 9-2. As for Armwood, their victory was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-1.
Keep an eye on the end zone in Friday's game as the pair haven't had much trouble getting there this season. Tampa Bay Tech commands a daunting offense this season, having averaged 5.6 touchdowns per game. However, it's not like Armwood struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5.6 per game.
