Basketball Recap: Toran Ayana Key Part of a Team Effort in Black Knights Win

Avalon lost to The Living Water School on January 3rd, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Monday. The Avalon Black Knights walked away with a 71-58 victory over The Living Water School The Storm. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Black Knights.

Avalon's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Toran Ayana led the charge by dropping a double-double on 24 points and 11 rebounds. Ayana is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last five games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Fox, who posted 18 points.

When it comes to explaining why The Living Water School lost, don't look at DeMachae McDowell. Despite the final result, he went 6 for 9 en route to 16 points in addition to eight rebounds and five blocks. McDowell is becoming a predictor of The Living Water School's success: when he posts at least three blocks the team is 4-1 (and 3-5 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Isaiah Bobo, who earned nine points and five assists.

Avalon is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a massive bump to their 8-9 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.0 points per game. As for The Living Water School, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-6.

Avalon will square off against Prince George's Christian Academy Blue at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for The Living Water School, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 67-47 win against Spencerville Adventist Academy on the 21st.
