Softball Recap: Archbishop McCarthy Gets the Win

While Archbishop McCarthy's win against Pembroke Pines Charter wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Archbishop McCarthy Mavericks sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-7 victory over the Pembroke Pines Charter Jaguars on Thursday. The win continues a trend for the Mavericks in their matchups with the Jaguars: they've now won three in a row.

Elizabeth Bruzgis spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and two unearned) runs on 11 hits.

At the plate, Elizabeth Varona was a standout: she scored a run while going 3-for-4. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Angie Sanchez was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Archbishop McCarthy's victory bumped their record up to 7-4. As for Pembroke Pines Charter, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-8 record this season.

Archbishop McCarthy will square off against Cardinal Gibbons at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Pembroke Pines Charter, they will challenge Satellite at 12:00 p.m. on March 29th.
