Recap: Amanda Elzy Panthers vs. Humphreys County Cowboys
The Amanda Elzy Panthers lost against the Humphreys County Cowboys back in October of 2022, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. Amanda Elzy fell just short of Humphreys County by a score of 24-22. Despite 300 more yards than Humphreys County, Amanda Elzy couldn't convert that extra yardage to scores.
Despite the loss, Amanda Elzy still got an impressive performance from Jevarion Glover, who threw for 409 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 13.2 yards per attempt, and also rushed for 106 yards on only 13 carries. Isaac Harris also helped out as he racked up 118 receiving yards.
Humphreys County was led to victory by Ollizous Brent and Markevious York. Brent rushed for 101 yards and a touchdown on only 11 carries, while York rushed for 134 yards and a touchdown on only 14 carries. Tayshun Walker got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
This is the second loss in a row for Amanda Elzy and nudges their season record down to 5-4. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 10-0 Winona (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 90% over those games). As for Humphreys County, their win was their third straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 8-2.
Amanda Elzy does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Humphreys County will be playing in front of their home fans against Belmont at 7:00 p.m. on November 3rd. Belmont will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Mississippi Rankings (they are ranked 218th, while Humphreys County is ranked 99th).
