Basketball Recap: Desert View Comes Up Short

Desert View lost against Pueblo two weeks ago and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Desert View Jaguars were dealt a 74-47 defeat at the hands of the Pueblo Warriors. The Jaguars just can't catch a break and have now endured four losses in a row.

Damien Borquez and Xaime Reyes certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Borquez almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 13 boards, while Reyes posted 15 points. Those 13 rebounds gave Borquez a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Samy Ishimwe, who put up seven points.

Even though they lost, Desert View smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pueblo only pulled down five offensive rebounds.

Anthony Carranza was nothing short of spectacular for Pueblo: he went 8 for 17 en route to 18 points along with seven boards and five assists. Another player making a difference was Silverio Rivera, who went 5 of 8 on his way to 13 points and five assists.

Desert View's record now sits at 3-15. As for Pueblo, their victory ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 6-14.

A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Desert View Jaguars take on the Cienega Bobcats at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Cienega's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season. As for Pueblo, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Flowing Wells at 7:00 p.m. Pueblo is facing Flowing Wells at the right time seeing as Flowing Wells is stuck on a five-game losing streak.
