Basketball Recap: East Providence Falls Short of Narragansett in the Playoffs

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact East Providence can now relate to. They came up short against the Narragansett Mariners on Thursday, falling 60-40. The Townies haven't had much luck with the Mariners recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Several Townies players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Harmonie McDowell, who shot 64% from the field on her way to 20 points. The dominant performance gave McDowell a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Audrey Bernard, who posted four points and ten boards.

Even though they lost, East Providence smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 16 offensive rebounds in three consecutive matches.

Narragansett's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Delaney Bonneau, who went 6-for-9 from beyond the arc to rack up 22 points and four steals. Bonneau is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in each of the last three games she's played. Brooke Caffrey was another key player, shooting 67% from the field en route to 16 points and five rebounds.

East Providence's loss dropped their record down to 16-6. As for Narragansett, they pushed their record up to 21-2 with the win, which was their 13th straight at home.

East Providence didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 41-37 defeat against La Salle Academy on the 8th. As for Narragansett, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 77-44 victory against St. Mary Academy-Bay View on the 8th.
