Baseball Game Preview: Middleton Vikings vs. Mountain View Mavericks

Middleton and Mountain View are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2017, but likely not for long. The Vikings will challenge the Mavericks at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. Middleton is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.9 runs per game this season.

Middleton is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Idaho's top teams: Ridgevue, who was ranked 19th at the time (Middleton was ranked seventh). The Vikings fell 10-7 to the Warhawks on Friday. The Vikings have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Middleton saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Drew Holman, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

Meanwhile, while it was Mountain View who put the first runs on the board on Friday, it was Centennial who put up more. The Mavericks fell just short of the Patriots by a score of 4-3.

Mountain View also got a good showing from Deegan Gonzalez, who tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Gonzalez has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in eight consecutive appearances.

Mountain View's loss dropped their record down to 19-6. As for Middleton, their defeat dropped their record down to 17-10.

Middleton couldn't quite get it done against Mountain View in their previous meeting last Tuesday as they fell 7-3. Can the Vikings avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
