Basketball Recap: Union Mine Diamondbacks vs. Rosemont Wolverine

In what's become a running theme this season, the Union Mine Diamondbacks gave their fans yet another huge win on Friday. Everything went their way against Rosemont as Union Mine made off with a 77-51 victory. The victory was familiar territory for Union Mine who now have seven in a row.

Union Mine was led to victory by Nate Sweet and Isaac Zmerzlikar. Sweet scored 22 points along with five rebounds and two steals, while Zmerzlikar dropped a double-double on 20 points and 24 rebounds. Sweet is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 22 or more in the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Hayden Otte, who scored ten points.

Ja'Monte Cole and Nick Wafula certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Cole almost dropped a triple-double on 13 points, 14 rebounds, and nine assists, while Wafula scored 15 points along with eight rebounds and three blocks. It was the first time this season that Cole pulled down eight or more rebounds. Connor Irion was another key contributor, scoring five points along with eight rebounds and three blocks.

Union Mine pushed their record up to 23-2 with that win, which was their 18th straight at home dating back to last season. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 79.4 points per game. As for Rosemont, their loss dropped their record down to 7-14.

Union Mine will play host again and welcome the Cougars, where tip off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in El Dorado's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last three contests. As for Rosemont, they will head out on the road to challenge the The Pride at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Bradshaw Christian is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 60.2 points per game this season.
