Baseball Recap: Nathan Hale Gets the Win

It may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Nathan Hale ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-6 win over the Shorewood Stormrays. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Raiders have posted since April 2nd.

Julian Gonzalez was incredible, going 3-for-5 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Nathan Hale's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 4-2 (and 5-7-1 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Kai Malloch, who went 3-for-5 with two RBI and one double.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Nathan Hale kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

The win got Nathan Hale back to even at 9-9-1. As for Shorewood, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-5.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Nathan Hale will host Rainier Beach at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Raiders are facing the Vikings at the right time seeing as the Vikings are stuck on a 12-game losing streak. As for Shorewood, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Monroe at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
