Basketball Recap: Millard West Comes Up Short

Millard West lost against Millard South back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Millard West Wildcats took a hard 74-58 fall against the Millard South Patriots. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 70th, while the Patriots are ranked 17th).

When it comes to explaining why Millard West lost, don't look at Reece Carson. Despite the final result, he went 10 for 17 on his way to 26 points. The match was Carson's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Carter LaBorde, who posted seven points.

Millard South found their leader in sophomore Carter Margheim, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 13 boards. That's the most rebounds Margheim has posted since back in December of 2024. Bernie Anderson was another key player, putting up ten points and four steals.

Millard West's defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 5-8. As for Millard South, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season.

Millard West will venture away from home to square off against Elkhorn South at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Millard West is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 59.8 points per game this season. As for Millard South, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 74-53 loss against Omaha Westside on the 25th.
