Basketball Game Preview: Polytechnic Panthers vs. Holy Martyrs Armenian Armens

Polytechnic is 1-6 against Holy Martyrs Armenian since December of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. Having just played yesterday, the Panthers will jump right back in to play the Armens at 1:30 p.m. Polytechnic will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.

Polytechnic's tournament run continued when they took on Hart on Friday. The Panthers walked away with a 49-42 win over the Hawks.

Polytechnic's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Harper Doyle, who went 7-for-14 to rack up 15 points and seven boards. The dominant performance also gave Doyle a new career-high in blocks (two). Another player making a difference was Maggie Scholze, who dropped a double-double with 14 points and ten rebounds.

Polytechnic smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in five consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, Holy Martyrs Armenian won against Hart on Wednesday with 42 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Friday. The Armens came out on top against Flintridge Sacred Heart by a score of 42-30.

Polytechnic's record now sits at 3-0. As for Holy Martyrs Armenian, their record is now 2-0.

Polytechnic and Holy Martyrs Armenian were neck-and-neck in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, but Polytechnic came up empty-handed after a 35-34 defeat. Can the Panthers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
