Preview: Bridgeport Bearcats vs. Birch Run Panthers
Bridgeport has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will take on the Birch Run Panthers at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Last Tuesday, Bridgeport came up short against Glenn and fell 54-45.
The losing side was boosted by Kimora Ellis, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and 22 rebounds. Ellis is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Peyton Sanders was another key contributor, scoring five points along with four steals.
Meanwhile, Birch Run's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their seventh straight loss. They had to suffer through a rough 72-12 loss at the hands of Frankenmuth. While losing is never fun, Birch Run can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 549th, while Frankenmuth is ranked 58th).
Bridgeport bumped their record down to 4-5 with that loss, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 29.2 points per game. As for Birch Run, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-7.
Bridgeport suffered a grim 60-36 defeat to Birch Run in their previous matchup back in February of 2023. Can Bridgeport avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
