Nipmuc Regional is 9-1 against Douglas since May of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Warriors will look to defend their home field against the Tigers at 3:30 p.m. Nipmuc Regional's pitching crew has only allowed 3.5 runs per game this season, so Douglas' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Nipmuc Regional proved they can win big on Wednesday (they won by ten) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They never let Framingham get on the board and left with a 1-0 win. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Warriors have posted since May 13, 2024.
Nipmuc Regional's win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Josh Giancola, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double. Sean Burchard also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Nipmuc Regional hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Douglas). Everything went their way against Assabet Valley RVT on Friday as they made off with a 13-6 victory. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Tigers considering their one-run performance the match before.
Colbey Begin made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Douglas is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 2-7 otherwise. Begin was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI and one run.
In other batting news, Douglas got a massive performance out of Ethan Curry, who went 1-for-3 with four stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Those two runs gave Curry a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Andrew Nason, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Douglas is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-8 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.3 runs over those games. As for Nipmuc Regional, they now have a winning record of 6-5.
Nipmuc Regional took their victory against Douglas when the teams last played back in April by a conclusive 15-0 score. Will the Warriors repeat their success, or do the Tigers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
