Softball Recap: Natalia Snags Tenth Win in Last 12 Games

Natalia lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Lytle, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Tuesday's match. The Natalia Mustangs put the hurt on the Lytle Pirates with a sharp 11-5 victory on Tuesday. The Mustangs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by six runs or more this season.

Gabriella Mendez and Leyla Saenz did most of the damage at the plate: Mendez scored a run while going 2-for-3, while Saenz scored a run while going 3-for-5. Those two hits gave Mendez a new career-high. Kira Jimenez was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

Natalia has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-4-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.9 runs on average over those games. Lytle's defeat dropped their record down to 7-7-1.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Natalia will challenge Crystal City at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Crystal City has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11 runs per game on average), something Natalia will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Lytle, they will take on Cotulla at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Lytle has given up an average of 6.5 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
