Baseball Game Preview: Hiawatha Hawks vs. Orangeville Broncos

The Hiawatha Hawks will square off against the Orangeville Broncos at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Hiawatha will be strutting in after a win while Orangeville will be coming in after a defeat.

Hiawatha will bounce into Wednesday's match after beating Serena, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. The Hawks had just enough and edged out the Huskers 5-3. That's two games straight that the Hawks have won by exactly two runs.

Colby Wylde spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned runs on three hits and racked up eight Ks.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Tommy Butler, who scored a run while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Tim Pruitt, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Meanwhile, Orangeville was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss dating back to last season. They lost 19-5 to Pearl City.

Orangeville saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kaiden Baker, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base. Brian Dittmar also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

The victory made it two in a row for Hiawatha and bumps their season record up to 2-3. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of two runs across that stretch. As for Orangeville, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-5.

Everything went Hiawatha's way against Orangeville in their previous meeting back in April of 2023, as Hiawatha made off with a 16-9 win. Will the Hawks repeat their success, or do the Broncos have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
