League recap: Hamilton tops Chandler to extend winning streak

Hamilton extended the longest winning streak in I Section II this week by beating Chandler, 34-18. This was the team's fourth consecutive win.

Tucson and Mountain View played the most hotly contested game in the league this week, with Tucson eventually emerging with a 10-7 victory. Cam Volk threw for 119 yards and one touchdown and ran for 31 yards in the win.

Basha's dynamic duo of Zach Werlinger and Ronnie Querry proved tough for Gilbert to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Werlinger threw for 537 yards and six touchdowns and Querry had 172 yards receiving. Nate Phillips helped Basha's passing attack out by catching nine balls for 146 yards.

JJ Husar was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 19 carries, he ran for 205 yards as Desert Ridge bested the Tigers. Tarek Morrison also contributed to the rushing game with 78 yards on the ground.

Basha's Werlinger and Phillips have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading I Section II in both passing and receiving yards. Werlinger has thrown for 1635 yards this season, while Phillips, a 5-foot-10 receiver, has 42 catches for 698 yards. Husar from the Jaguars leads the league in rushing with 765 yards.

The marquee game in the league this week will be the clash between Bernie Busken's team and Desert Ridge. The Bears enters the contest ranked 13th in the state, while Jeremy Hathcock's team ranks first.

Corona del Sol took down Cibola 48-7 last week, the largest margin of any game.
