Softball Game Preview: Tanque Verde Hawks vs. San Tan Foothills Sabercats

The Tanque Verde Hawks will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on the San Tan Foothills Sabercats at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The timing is sure in Tanque Verde's favor as the squad sits on six straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while San Tan Foothills has been banged up by six consecutive losses on the road also dating back to last season.

Tanque Verde is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against Cholla on Tuesday as Tanque Verde made off with a 21-1 victory. The high-scoring effort was just what the Hawks needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.

Julia Pratt made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over four innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with four runs, three RBI, and one triple.

In other batting news, Mikaela Jackson and Remi Johnson did most of the damage at the plate: Jackson got on base in four of her five plate appearances with four runs and four RBI, while Johnson went 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those runs marked the first that Johnson scored this season. Another player making a difference was Elizabeth Pratt, who scored three runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

Tanque Verde always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .632. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.

Meanwhile, San Tan Foothills came into Tuesday's contest having lost nine straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They put the hurt on Catalina with a sharp 20-8 win on Tuesday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Sabercats needed considering they were shut out in their previous match.

San Tan Foothills' first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-4. As for Tanque Verde, their win bumped their record up to 6-1.

Tanque Verde took their victory against San Tan Foothills in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 27-2. Does Tanque Verde have another victory up their sleeve, or will San Tan Foothills turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
