Basketball Recap: Kaylie Harmon's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Columbus North over East Central

Columbus North and East Central squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but Columbus North had to settle for second. They fell 57-50 to the East Central Trojans. The match was a 24-24 toss-up at halftime, but the Bull Dogs couldn't quite close it out.

Columbus North lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Kaylie Harmon, who posted 17 points. She continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Kenna Conrad, who put up 11 points and eight rebounds.

Even though they lost, Columbus North smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their offensive board total in three consecutive games.

East Central found their leader in freshman Natalie Stenger, who had 18 points in addition to seven steals and five boards. Stenger has become a key player for East Central: the team is 9-4 when she posts at least three steals, but 3-7 otherwise. Meredith Sizemore was another key player, dropping a double-double with ten points and 12 rebounds.

Columbus North's record is now 17-8. As for East Central, they now have a winning record of 12-11.

Columbus North does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for East Central, they will challenge Bloomington South at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with East Central sitting on three straight victories and Bloomington South on five.
