Basketball Recap: Lugoff-Elgin Takes a Loss

If Lugoff-Elgin was feeling good fresh off their 46-8 takedown of North Central last Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Lugoff-Elgin Demons were beaten by the Camden Bulldogs 80-32 on Friday. The Demons lost against the Bulldogs in their previous head to head back in December of 2023, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 105-22 score last time.

Despite the defeat, Lugoff-Elgin had strong showings from Jordan Samuel, who posted 13 points and three steals, and Kendra Wilson, who had six points. Samuel is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last six games she's played dating back to last season.

Camden's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Braylin Mungo, who went 5 of 10 on her way to 17 points along with eight assists and eight steals. That's the most assists Mungo has posted since back in January. The team also got some help courtesy of Morgan Champion, who went 7 of 12 on her way to 21 points.

Lugoff-Elgin now has a losing record at 3-4. As for Camden, they pushed their record up to 4-2 with the win, which was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season.

Lugoff-Elgin didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 66-17 victory against North Central on the 16th. As for Camden, they will welcome Fairfield Central at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Camden knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past six games -- so hopefully Fairfield Central likes a good challenge.
